Different View

I have recently found some personal websites and online articles that are not scholarly sources for my paper. But they provide a way for me to see into the mind of someone getting cosmetic surgery, especially multiple procedures. Many of the personal blogs and websites are saying that cosmetic surgery is just another step of self improvement. These women feel that they are just bettering themselves physically. Some go a step further and say that by improving their outside appearance that they are in turn improving their mental and emotional quality of life. Can cosmetic surgery really cure self esteem issues? I question whether it will end the feelings of inadequacy or just keep that person struggling with other areas of her physical appearance. But if surgery could fix a bumpy nose or flat chest that has caused a young woman to feel out of place and unfit, why would we say no to that cure? Giving someone confidence and a feeling of belonging seems like the greatest gift we could offer. But some of these procedures range in the thousands of dollars. Can you put a price on self esteem? And are the risks worth it?

Looking at this situation from a different view puts a lot of questions in my head. I will probably write about this later!

Journal of Ethics

Well I have completely rewritten my paper now..... but is definitely more organized now!! I noticed that Brittney's article was from the American Medical Association Journal of Ethics so I went to the web site http://virtualmentor.ama-assn.org and I found some helpful articles. Some may not be sources for my paper, but there is a lot of good background information on the different ethical issues for a topic.

America Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery Web Site

I came a crossed this web site which offers a lot of detailed information on all the different procedures available. I found this interesting because it offered more than just the obvious one- breast implants, liposuction, face lift, etc. I was most surprised by eye lid reshaping procedures. It just sounds silly to me. Another reason why I like this web site is because of the patient safety tab. It talks about what patients can expect in their lifestyles to change, physician credentials, and offshore products. Many of these topics are the biggest risks in plastic surgery; so I feel that it is good information. http://surgery.org/
